Iridium satellite phones
The Iridium satellite network offers worldwide coverage as far as the polar regions thanks to its orbiting LEO satellites. This means that coverage shadows are virtually non-existent and reception is hardly affected when moving around on ships, in vehicles and aeroplanes. The range includes classic phone models such as Iridium Extreme 9575 with GPS or Iridium 9555 without GPS. There are also the pioneering Iridium GO! and GO! exec with GPS and WLAN connection for mobile devices such as smartphones or tablets for telephony and compressed e-mail traffic, e.g. for aviation weather data and marine weather data. Models for permanent installation in buildings and vehicles are also available (LT-3100, LT-4100, LT-4200 and ASE MC08-H) with extended options such as connection to Ethernet and telephone systems (POTS, PABX). However, these models also require an external antenna and corresponding antenna cables.
