Modems and Terminals of Iridium

In addition to voice connections, Iridium satellite terminals are primarily designed for data traffic. The Iridium SBD modems support the Short Burst Data Service for small and very small data volumes, e.g. for the transmission of measurement and positioning data. The devices can also be controlled remotely.

Modems and terminals for Iridium Certus

Iridium Certus enables data rates of 88-704kbit/s. The Iridium Certus devices work on the basis of the new Iridium NEXT satellite network, which has been fully operational since January 2019 with global coverage from the North Pole to the South Pole. With the MissionLINK, the manufacturer Thales has launched a lightweight mobile device with small dimensions onto the market. In contrast to mobile Inmarsat BGAN terminals, which are mounted on vehicles, the MissionLINK and Lars Thrane devices do not require a self-tracking antenna. This makes the devices significantly cheaper to purchase.

Thales provides antenna cable lengths up to 60m and Lars Thrane up to 500 metres and up to 3 simultaneous telephone connections. Further features depending on the device: WiFi multi-user capability, SIP technology, connection to a telephone system is possible.
